CT ABD & PEL W

Detail Description

A CT scan of the abdomen and pelvis can help diagnose problems in the bladder, uterus, prostate, liver or bowels.

CT scanning of the abdomen/pelvis is also performed to:

  • Visualize the liver, spleen, pancreas and kidney
  • Plan and properly administer radiation treatments for tumors
  • Guide biopsies and other minimally invasive procedures

CT imaging can also play a significant role in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of vascular disorders that can lead to stroke, gangrene or kidney failure.

CT scans may be done with or without "contrast." Contrast refers to a substance taken by mouth or injected into an intravenous (IV) line that causes the particular organ or tissue under study to be seen more clearly. Contrast examinations may require you to fast for a certain period of time before the procedure. Your doctor will notify you of this prior to the procedure.
